Hurricane Preparedness List
The Atlantic Hurricane Season beings June 1 and runs through November. Healthcare Facilities are encouraged to review their emergency response plans. Here is a down-and-dirty list of items and actions facilities should consider anytime a substantial wind/rain event is likely:

- Know your Zone if you are located near a floodplain
- Clear storm drains and roof drains of debris.
- Loose items, such as patio umbrellas, furniture, and waste receptacles moved indoors.
- Ensure generator fuel supplies are full.
- Food and water supplies are at capacity appropriate for patient/resident census and staff support.
- Review and update contact information for staff and key external resources.
- Know your triggers for sheltering in place or evacuating
- Have leak kits on standby for any water intrusion that results.
- Encourage staff to make personal preparedness efforts a priority.
- Test any redundant communication systems.
- Ensure weather radios are operational and placed at key locations within the organization.
- Make sure your VHASS information is up to date
- Sign up for Regional Communications to receive any information regarding calls with community partners
- Contact the RHCC (866) 679-7422 and local emergency management for any needs or concerns.
