Training Center

A large part of SVHC's mission is to foster the education of the community, emergency managers, healthcare administrators, and healthcare providers to better prepare and deal with disasters or other interruptions to normal operations. One way we do that is through our training and education offerings. We have a variety of opportunities including courses National Disaster Life Support Foundation. See below for more details:

Core Disaster Life Support (CDLS)

This 3.5-hour course provides the base level of understanding of disaster preparedness and response. Intended for first responders and healthcare professionals new to disaster management, it is also very appropriate for business leaders, government officials, and the interested public. Basic Disaster Life Support (BDLS)

This 8-hour, lecture-based course is an information packed offering intended to educate first responders and healthcare personnel to prevent, detect and respond to disaster scenarios including natural and man-made disasters, chemical or radiological incidents and infectious disease outbreaks.

Adv Disaster Life Support (ADLS)

Advanced Disaster Life Support: This 16-hour course includes 12 hours of hands-on, experiential learning. Participants will exercise triage and hospital surge management techniques as well as experience responding to a disaster scenario. This course is where the rubber meets the road in disaster response and should be on every first responder and healthcare professional’s to-do list.

Certified Hospital Emergency Coordinator (CHEC)

This lecture -based, facilitated discussion course will provide hospital emergency coordinators and other healthcare professionals with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to respond to any emergency event, including natural disasters, terrorism, large-scale disease outbreaks, and man-made incidents.

Other Courses

Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC)

This 8 hour course provides FIRE/EMS, Law Enforcement, and Healthcare Professionals with the tools to deliver on scene medical care in a tactical environment.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)

8-hour, classroom based course takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health and substance use problems by providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address a potential mental illness or substance use disorders.

Hospital Incident Command System (HICS)

This 4-hour course teaches the principals of NIMS & Incident Command Systems in a hospital/healthcare environment to establish a response and education framework.
